RISING COSTS ARE A CONCERN FOR MANY

Even the great Lewis Hamilton himself has spoken out about the rising cost of the sport, telling BBC Sport (https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/formula1/44682870) that his upbringing was different to the other professional drivers on the Formula 1 grid having come from a working-class family. Having grown up on a council estate in Stevenage, Lewis had a bigger struggle to get to the top than his peers.

If you want to be picked up by the top teams and go into their feeder programmes, you need to be racing with the best of the best and if you haven’t got the money, you’re going to be overlooked.”

While the issue of cash is something that largely surrounds the sport, it isn’t down to money alone. Even Tim Swietochowski from the Motor Sports Association says that while money plays a big role, it doesn’t mean that those with smaller budgets can’t succeed.

How one performs on the track is still important and is key to climbing the racing career ladder. Many competitions offer cash prizes and even sponsorships which can see a quicker progression. Ultimately, it’s skill and dedication that brings success. This is why it is so important for young racers not to become too disillusioned with the expenditure of participating in this exciting sport, and Team Karting want to help.
