While go-karting is a fun and exhilarating sport, there is a fear that it could be exclusive to those who can afford it. Team Karting and other professionals are looking to change that and make the sport accessible to all.

Even the great Lewis Hamilton himself has spoken out about the rising cost of the sport, telling BBC Sport (https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/formula1/44682870) that his upbringing was different to the other professional drivers on the Formula 1 grid having come from a working-class family. Having grown up on a council estate in Stevenage, Lewis had a bigger struggle to get to the top than his peers.

Team Karting’s very own Matty Street also commented, telling the BBC (https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/formula1/44682870): “Having funding and support behind you opens more doors. If you want to be picked up by the top teams and go into their feeder programmes, you need to be racing with the best of the best and if you haven’t got the money, you’re going to be overlooked.”

While the issue of cash is something that largely surrounds the sport, it isn’t down to money alone. Even Tim Swietochowski from the Motor Sports Association says that while money plays a big role, it doesn’t mean that those with smaller budgets can’t succeed.

How one performs on the track is still important and is key to climbing the racing career ladder. Many competitions offer cash prizes and even sponsorships which can see a quicker progression. Ultimately, it’s skill and dedication that brings success. This is why it is so important for young racers not to become too disillusioned with the expenditure of participating in this exciting sport, and Team Karting want to help.

Team Karting want to keep the dream alive for anyone who wants to go into racing, regardless of background. We work hard to be able to bring the most affordable go-karting experiences around whilst offering the highest spec of karts and equipment. Our real investment goes into the people who want to explore the sport, especially youth, and to nurture these passions to help develop vital skills on the track. It’s Team Karting’s dedication to up-and-coming racers that makes us the ideal place to get started on the go-karting scene.

One of the ways we do this is through our unique outdoor karting weekends. TK-Xtra is designed to allow young drivers an even greater experience. It isn’t just advanced karting skills learned on the outdoor track, but team building and other details that makes for a great racing team. It is with these skills that young drivers are able to take their driving to the next level, and we’re all too proud to be part of the journey.

Racing is an inclusive sport, and Team Karting are proud to help pave the way for everyone to be able to enjoy it.
